You might have practiced yoga with dogs, attended Baby Yoga classes, or even done Goat Yoga, but have you heard of Silent Yoga?
Together with BENDER and YogaWorks, The Xanadu Life hosted the Silent Sunset Yoga Social at Santa Monica Pier on May 21, 2017. Attended by more than 200 people, the sold-out event not only afforded yogis with a panoramic view of the sky and ocean, but also offered a one-of-a-kind yoga experience, in which participants wore a wireless headset provided by Sound Off Headphones, through which they could hear the instructor and live music. By blocking out ambient noise and with the option to adjust the volume of the instructor’s voice and music, the noise-isolating headphones minimize distractions, making the yoga session more mindful and meditative.
The sunset yoga class was led by Mia Togo of YogaWorks, with music provided by BENDER’s resident DJ Justin Henderson. We were beyond excited to participate as a vendor for the first time at Xanadu Life! Other pop-up boutiques include CLIF Bar | Luna, Flow Water, Tampon Tribe, and Revolucion Fitness Apparel.
The Xanadu Life is a collective of nature and yoga enthusiasts dedicated to inspiring wellness, education, and green living through unique and playful experiences. In addition to yoga socials, it offers sunset cruises, coastal cleanups, and Camp Xanadu, an annual summer retreat hosted on Catalina Island. All proceeds from the event will go to The Xanadu Foundation, a nonprofit organization with the mission to inspire positive change surrounding ocean and environmental issues through activation, education, and art.
Revolucion Fitness Apparel
Revolucion was founded by Jason Leon and his husband Steve Dobbins, who believe in the transformative powers of yoga and are passionate about using business to create social good. They launched Revolucion in 2016, offering a full range of high quality, yoga-inspired fitness apparel for women and men.
But Revolucion is much more than a clothing brand – inspired by social entrepreneurs and committed to social justice, every purchase at Revolucion supports a cause and social giveback to one of their Love in Action Partners, which includes The Freedom Story, 8 West, The pH8 Foundation, and The Henna School, organizations that are making a huge impact in communities in Thailand, South Africa, and the United States. As of March 2017, Revolucion, together with its partners, have provided 330 warm meals to homeless youth in Southern California; donated 291 months of school supplies for children in South Africa; provided 803,000 days of clean water for a child in a developing country, and much more.
Mia is a YogaWorks certified teacher, teacher trainer, and mentor for YogaWorks’ 300-hour professional program. Having started her practice of yoga in 1996, she has since studied with many teachers, found wisdom from different style and philosophies, and found her passion in vinyasa flow. She has said of yoga and coaching, “A struggle is a lesson we haven’t yet learned. Yoga and coaching is a modality to define our struggles, develop rinsing and processing skills to choose a life that refines our purpose.” Mia teaches with an emphasis on detailed alignment, and believes that the asanas allow students to observe the energy they carry, and reveal where healing is needed. Her purpose as a teacher is to allow her students to have an authentic experience that is sacred, healing, uplifting, and inspired by spirit.
